Some important things to know for your first yoga class
If this is your first yoga class here are some things to note:
- Clothing- Wear comfortable clothing, something you can do physical movements in with ease, possibly getting a little sweaty in, and something that isn't restricting of your breathing.
- Shoes- Leave your shoes outside the studio- there is a place for your shoes just outside the studio doors at most studios so that the studio floor can be kept clean.
- Socks and jumpers - On chilly days, this is a necessity but do take note if you're trying to do yoga poses with socks on, it can be very slippery and sadly can sometimes result in injuries or looking like you've stood on a banana peel, so barefoot is always best.
- Water- It is often not advised to drink water 1 hour before your yoga class or during the class. However, hydration in life is important, so feel free to have a bottle near you should you wish.
- Towel- A sweat towel is a good idea. Yoga can often be detoxifying and the first couple of classes can be a little sweatier than others.
- Mat- It is encouraged to bring your own mat for hygiene purposes, however, we do have some mats available for use.
- Injuries- If you have an injury or any concerns, please allow time to get to the class 10 minutes before so that we can speak about it and work the practice around the injuries.
- No body looks the same- In our class settings, you will find a space where everyone is doing their "own" yoga practice but with each other. There are many ways to do different poses because everyone has different physical builds, genetics and life experiences that have lead them to where they are today, so don't expect to look like the person next to you. There is no comparison, only your own progress.
- Come and Chat- I will be at my classes usually 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after, this is a good time to come chat to ask any questions you may have or to get to know each other, so don't be shy!
